Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI or MR), together with Computed Tomography (CT), is the most advanced diagnostic imaging tool available.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI or MR), together with Computed Tomography (CT), is the most advanced diagnostic imaging tool available. This safe, non-invasive procedure allows more complete viewing of soft tissue structure such as brain and spinal cord than any other modality.
This technology uses no ionizing radiation, such as x-rays, and thus has gained rapid and wide use in paediatric imaging in human medicine. Although this is less of a concern in veterinary medicine, MRI is becoming more and more popular because of the extraordinary resolution on nervous structures and musculotendinous tissues imaging.
Now seen as the gold standard for examining the brain and spine, MRI has replaced many of the more invasive procedures of the past. Common diseases diagnosed include spinal disk herniation, brain tumors, trauma of the brain and spine, strokes, and brain malformations. Last, but not the least, crucial ligament deficiency can be perfectly diagnosed with MRI.
More than being two tools to compare, CT and MRI have complementary potentials, giving us an enormous diagnostic capability.
We are pleased to add the new Hitachi Aperto Lucent 0,4 T, classified as a mid-field magnetic resonance, together with 128 slice CT Hitachi Scenaria, to Animal Hospital Postojna state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging service.
