What is endoscopy ?

Endoscopy is a precise and minimally invasive diagnostic procedure, performed with the insertion of an endoscope in the openings of the body to carry out minor surgeries and imaging of the body tissues and internal organs. An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube with a camera and the light on one end, suited to examine oesophagus, stomach (gastroscopy), intestine, bowel (colonoscopy), nasal cavity, trachea, bronchi and such. During the procedure, the images of the inside are simultaneously transmitted to the screen. An endoscope can also be used to remove a small sample of a tissue to conduct further analysis. This is called a biopsy.
